WASHINGTON, November 18, 2021 — United States Representative Mike Johnson (LA-04) released the following statement after House Democrats passed trillions of dollars in new taxes and spending with no Republican support:

“During what should be a period of sustained economic recovery, job growth has stalled, consumer prices are skyrocketing, and many shelves are empty thanks to supply chain chokepoints.

“Nevertheless, House Democrats forged ahead today to pass their 2,100 page reckless tax-and-spend spree, which will clearly drive consumer prices even higher, make job growth even harder, and cause unprecedented damage to the U.S. economy. Their monstrous bill was passed before Members had time to read it and before the American people could fully understand what’s in it.

“Buried in its pages are tax breaks for the rich, incentives to stay home instead of going to work, massive taxpayer subsidies for inefficient green energy sources, and fewer cures for rare diseases. The bill also eliminates jobs, reduces paychecks, increases government dependency, crushes small businesses, allows for taxpayer funding of abortions, and taxes American companies at a higher rate than Communist China.

“No wonder the few remaining reasonable House Democrats were nervous about this debacle. Now that they have gone along with it, there won’t be any of them left.”

Congressman Johnson is the Vice Chairman of the House Republican Conference, a member of the House Judiciary and Armed Services Committees, and a former constitutional law litigator.
