House Republicans Move to Defund President Biden’s ‘Ministry of Truth’Office of the Republican Leader

Two weeks ago — with no advanced warning or transparency — Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and the Department of Homeland Security launched an initiative to monitor and control Americans’ free speech. Under the guise of combatting “misinformation,” the Biden administration wants to use this new office to wield even greater autonomy over the flow of public information. That is why Leader McCarthy and his fellow House Republican colleagues introduced legislation today to terminate the so-called “Disinformation Governance Board.” Leader McCarthy’s statement: “President Biden’s ‘Ministry of Truth’ is an egregious abuse of government overreach. This is nothing more than a ploy by the Biden administration to exert its influence over Americans’ free speech. “‘Misinformation’ has become a rallying cry for leftist groups and their allies in the media to discredit facts they find inconvenient to their liberal agenda. The Steele Dossier, the Russia collusion hoax, Hunter Biden’s laptop, and the Covid lab leak theory were all labeled ‘misinformation’ until the truth finally prevailed. Now Washington Democrats want to use the power of the federal government to double down on their efforts to control information. “The Biden administration’s ‘Ministry of Truth’ must be immediately dismantled. I am proud to stand alongside my Republican colleagues, including Representatives Lauren Boebert, Mike Johnson, August Pfluger, and the House Republican leadership, as we move to terminate this anti-free speech scheme. “House Republicans will demand a Floor vote on this bill later today. Democrats have a choice to make: they can either stand up to protect free speech or they can side with President Biden’s efforts to curtail Americans’ First Amendment rights.” |
