WASHINGTON, January 7, 2023 — House Republican Conference Vice Chairman Mike Johnson (LA-04) released the following statement on the beginning of the 118th Congress and the new House Republican majority:

“I extend my congratulations and warm wishes to Speaker McCarthy. We are all rooting for Speaker McCarthy, because if Congress is successful, our country benefits.

“In the 118th Congress, we are committed to delivering to the American people a government that’s more accountable, an economy that’s strong, a nation that’s safe, and a future that’s built on freedom. Campaign season is over. The House has elected our Speaker. Now it’s time to get to work.”
