LEESVILLE, La. (KALB) - It was a full house at Leesville City Hall where residents got to submit their concerns and questions at a joint town meeting with Congressmen Mike Johnson and Ralph Abraham. Some of the big talkers included division on Capitol Hill, immigration, and Louisiana infrastructure.

When asked why Louisiana seems to consistently rank last in various national polls, Rep. Johnson said the solution is to reform the state government

“We need to do government more like the state of Texas does,” Rep. Johnson said. “They have no income tax and they push the authority down to the local level so that at the county and the municipal level they make a lot of the decisions. We do the opposite here and send everything to Baton Rouge. All the power is concentrated there, all the tax dollars, and then it's redistributed around the state and patronage. That old style, Huey P. Long style doesn’t work anymore and we desperately need to change it.”

Rep. Johnson and Abraham also addressed the border crisis

Drugs, human trafficking...the worst of the worst is coming through the border and ICE agents are phenomenal people, but there are not enough of them,” Rep. Abraham said. “We need a wall, we need money down there, and we need good men and women in uniform protecting us because, if we don't have a border, we don’t have a nation and nothing else matters.”

Rep. Johnson spent Friday in Vernon Parish. He started his day off with a trip to the Joint Readiness Training Center where he met with Louisiana National Guard soldiers in 256th Infantry Brigade Combat Team.
