SHREVEPORT, La. - If you couldn't drive across the Texas Street bridge Saturday morning, it's because hundreds of people were marching across the bridge in support of life. It was a part of the annual Louisiana Life March. People like Malia Heath were a part of that crowd. She said a few years ago she met all the criteria to have an abortion. "But I didn't and I chose life," Heath explained. "She's right up there. And I just feel like, if i can do it, anybody can do it." Now she has a little girl that can help advocate with her. They started marching from the Boardwalk in Bossier City and ended at Festival Plaza in Shreveport. Congressman Mike Johnson spoke to the crowd. He had some positive words for the marchers. "The Louisiana Department of Health statistics say since 2011, we've had a 21 percent reduction in the number of abortions in Shreveport and Bossier alone," said Johnson. "And in the ten parish area of northwest Louisiana it's a 37 percent decline in abortions. So, we're delighted by that we want those trend lines to continue. This is just a time for everybody to come together and celebrate those numbers and understand we still have a lot more work to do." There was live music and information booths about other options. "That's what we're here on behalf of all the children representing Louisiana heart gallery are available for adoption right now in this state," said Tony Streetman. "People just need to know that we can get those kids in homes." They're letting people know that there are other choices other than to end a life before it begins. |
