Bossier Sheriff Julian Whittington sworn in by House Speaker Mike Johnson, who speaks about Trump support

After being re-elected as sheriff, Julian Whittington has been sworn in by U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson.

On June 30 at 12:50 p.m., the swearing-in ceremony for Bossier Sheriff Julian Whittington was held for his continued role serving as the parish’s sheriff. Personally swearing in Whittington was House Speaker Mike Johnson, who had once resided in Caddo Parish but has since established himself and his family in Bossier Parish.

After the swearing-in ceremony, both Whittington and Johnson answered questions regarding their roles and plans for the future.

Bossier Parish Sheriff Whittington speaks on his plans for the future and House Speaker Mike Johnson speaks on his support for former President Trump.

Whittington explained that there is a lot on the table for the future in Bossier Parish.

“We have a lot going on; we really never stopped,. Uh, we have a construction project going on just down the street. We are renovating and remodeling our criminal building, about a $12 million project; we are constantly working on that. We are currently working with Barksdale Air Force Base on possibly a joint training facility, maybe, maybe, maybe. Not the same one by the city, school board, anyway we aren’t certain if that is going to happen or not” Whittington said. " And, of course, just the daily operations of an organization our size.”

Whittington said the biggest challenges the Sheriff’s Office faces are training and hiring good people.

When speaking about Johnson, Whittington joked about Johnson being from Caddo Parish.

“I’ve known Mike for several years, always knew he was going places. He’s always been a great congressman; and he’s just a great guy, other than being raised in Caddo. He got to Bossier as quick as he could.”

After questions from Whittington, House Speaker Johnson answered questions from the media.

“We’re in a time of great challenge. You could argue we are facing the greatest collection of challenges our country has faced, arguably since World War II, maybe the Civil War, some people say. But, we are going to get through that,” Johnson said when asked about his experience in D.C.

“I am not going to speak partisanly, but I do believe we will have new leadership after the election in November, and I am excited about President Trump having another term, I believe he’ll earn that,” Johnson said. “I believe we will grow the House majority for our House Republicans. That would make my job a lot easier because I’ve been working with the smallest majority in the history of the country, at a one-vote margin for about five months. I believe we will control the Senate as well.”
