Speaker Johnson Appoints Rep. Virginia Foxx as Chairwoman of the House Rules Committee

WASHINGTON — Speaker Johnson today appointed Representative Virginia Foxx (NC-5) to serve as Chairwoman of the House Rules Committee for the 119th Congress.

Speaker Johnson released the following statement:

“For two decades, Dr. Foxx has been a stalwart in the House and a leader in multiple policy areas. Her drive and personality have established her as among the most universally respected members of our Republican Conference. Dr. Foxx is an example of how Members should serve, and our Conference will benefit greatly with her at the helm of the influential Rules Committee.”

Background:

The Rules Committee serves as the last stop for major legislation before it can be considered on the House floor. Rules Committee members meet to discuss and set the terms of debate for floor consideration.
