BARKDALE AIR FORCE BASE, La. - Staying prepared and on-guard, that isn't only the goal for the airmen at Barksdale Air Force Base, but also the message from lawmakers who received a briefing on the current projects in the works.

Tuesday morning,  U.S. Sen. John Kennedy and Rep Mike Johnson, who represent northwest Louisiana in Washington, got a briefing about all that's happening and improving at the base.

"This entrance way and gateway are important. We've got to make sure that gets completed and we have to keep that on track. I can promise you that the Congressman and I are going to be vigilant," said Sen. Kennedy.

Both also discussed their recent approval of pay raises for members of the military. They spoke to Air Force Global Strike Commander, Gen. Timothy Ray, about the readiness of the bombers at Barksdale

Rep. Johnson added, "we live in a very dangerous world and the generals are very frank about our top threats, You think about North Korea and Iran, but of course Russian and China as well."
