 Today, Rep. Mike Johnson (LA-04) invited students in grades nine through twelve to participate in the 35^th Congressional Art Competition, a nationwide, visual art contest for high school students.

In light of his appointment to the U.S. House Committee on Natural Resources, Rep. Johnson has chosen “The Natural Resources of Our Great State” as the theme for this year's competition in Louisiana’s Fourth District. The winning artist from the district will have his or her work displayed in the United States Capitol for one year and will also receive two round-trip tickets to attend a reception in Washington, D.C. to honor the accomplishment.

Rep. Johnson released the following statement:

“With plentiful waterways, forests, crops of all kinds and abundant wildlife, there is no limit to the inspiration that can be found in the natural beauty of Louisiana. I encourage all eligible students to seize this unique opportunity to highlight those features and show their talents. There is no shortage of artistic ability among the young people of Louisiana’s Fourth District, and we look forward to seeing all the entries this year.”

Since the Artistic Discovery Competition of the Congressional Institute began in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated in the annual event. Students submit entries to their representative’s office, and panels of district artists select the winning entries. Winners are recognized both in their district and at the annual awards ceremony in Washington, D.C.

Each entry must be original in concept, design and execution. The deadline to notify our office you will be participating is March 31, 2017, and all submission must be made by April 19, 2017.
