Louisiana Receives Over $1.2 Million for Pipeline Safety

This week, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Administration announced two grants totaling more than $1.2 million to the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources. Both awards, one for $1,092,003 and the other for $199,230, support state pipeline safety programs by reimbursing a portion of the state’s total program expenses for a given calendar year based on performance.

Rep. Johnson released the following statement:

“There are more miles of natural gas pipeline in the United States than there are paved roads. Louisiana alone is home to approximately 125,000 miles of pipeline – making it a critical component to securing energy independence. It goes without saying that the safety during the creation and use of these pipelines is of paramount importance. Louisiana has been a leader in the natural gas and energy industry, and these performance-based awards further illustrate the industry’s commitment to its employees and the surrounding communities.”
