Rep. Johnson Requests DOJ Action Against Violations by Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast
Washington, DC,
September 11, 2017
Rep. Mike Johnson (LA-04) sent a letter to Attorney General Jeff Sessions requesting action by the Department of Justice against Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast (PPGC), which appears to have clearly violated federal law when it sold fetal tissue to the University of Texas from 2010 to 2012. The letter, signed by 18 members of Congress, highlights the 2016 Final Report from the House Select Investigative Panel on Infant Lives, which concluded: “Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast may have violated both Texas law and existing U.S. law.” Johnson’s request specifically addresses PPGC’s operations in both Louisiana and Texas and requests the Department of Justice follow up with a federal investigation regarding the apparent violations of federal law. Johnson released the following statement: “The Department of Justice should open a full and intensive investigation into the potentially illegal actions of Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast. The backroom deals being made to transfer and sell the body parts of unborn babies are not only shocking, but illegal. We must do everything in our power to stop this horrifying practice and protect the sanctity of human life. There is more than enough evidence in the House select committee’s report to bring an investigation into PPGC’s operations. I encourage Attorney General Sessions to take swift action in this matter.” |
