Rep. Johnson Protects the Sanctity of Life
Washington, DC,
October 4, 2017
On Tuesday, Rep. Mike Johnson (LA-04) voted in favor of H.R. 36, the Pain-Capable Unborn Protection Act, to prohibit any person from performing or attempting an abortion after the 20-week period. He was a co-sponsor of the landmark legislation, which passed the House by a vote of 237 to 189. He also spoke on the House floor earlier in the day in support of this legislation. Science has proven that unborn children of 20 weeks are capable of feeling pain. Additionally, many children have been born at this stage of pregnancy and grow up to lead healthy, happy lives. Yet thousands of these babies are killed each year in violent late-term abortions. The United States is sadly one of only seven nations, including North Korea and China, that still allows abortions after 20 weeks. Rep. Johnson released the following statement: “Ending the dangerous and violent practice of late-term abortions should not be controversial. On the contrary, a law that allows abortion providers to end the life of an unborn baby when that child can live outside the womb and feel the pain inflicted by such heinous procedures is grotesque and should be corrected immediately. Late-term abortions are responsible for the deaths of thousands of babies each year. It is our moral responsibility to defend the defenseless, and I will continue this fight while in Congress.” |
