Johnson Makes Moves in Lame-Duck Session, Border Bill Passes Committee

Today, the House Natural Resources Committee passed U.S. House Representative Mike Johnson’s (LA-04) bill, the Securing Our Borders and Wilderness Act, to combat the dangerous effects the Wilderness Act is having on border security. Under the Wilderness Act, border security officials may be barred from entering designated “wilderness” areas, leaving approximately 693 miles of our Southern border lacking law enforcement and therefore open for illegal aliens and human and drug traffickers to cross into the United States.

REP. JOHNSON RELEASED THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT:

“Allowing large swaths of our border to go unprotected while illegal immigration numbers soar and caravans of migrants head towards the United States is not only irresponsible, it is dangerous. The brave men and women along our border should be given every resource necessary to defend our nation, and that includes access to the land they are sworn to protect. The Securing Our Borders and Wilderness Act ensures border patrol agents can effectively carry out their duties while continuing to prevent further erosion of our wilderness areas caused by increased illegal activities.”
