U.S. Representatives Mike Johnson (LA-04) and Garret Graves (LA-06), members of the House Natural Resources Committee, today applauded the announcement that the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has awarded a $24.8 million grant to restore habitats along Louisiana’s coast:
U.S. REPRESENTATIVE MIKE JOHNSON:
“Whether it’s serving as a storm surge barrier for communities along the coast, providing a habitat for some of the state’s most valued seafood, or maintaining the areas surrounding some of America's most valuable ports, Louisiana’s coastal wetlands play an enormous role in providing protection and economic opportunity for people across our state and our nation. It is vital we do everything in our power to maintain them. I am grateful for NOAA’s investment in our coast and will continue working alongside Rep. Graves to ensure Louisiana’s best interests are represented in Washington.”
U.S. REPRESENTATIVE GARRET GRAVES:
“When it comes to fighting back against the impacts of subsidence, storm surge, and other factors contributing to America’s biggest ecological crisis, South Louisiana is the world’s bellwether. NOAA’s continued commitment to restoring Louisiana’s Gulf Coast is an important component of the state’s 50-year master plan to make communities more resilient, provide critical wildlife habitats, and to support the array of working-coast activities that the nation relies upon. Louisiana is the innovator in water management and coastal protection. Collaborating with our federal partners means Louisiana can share our expertise and lessons learned to other coastal areas around the world that are or will be vulnerable to similar risk.”
