U.S. Representative Mike Johnson (LA-04), Chairman of the Republican Study Committee, today urged Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) to bring the Holding Foreign Companies Accountable Act before the House for a vote. The bipartisan bill, introduced by U.S. Senators John Kennedy (R-LA) and Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), would protect American investors and their retirement savings from foreign companies that have been operating on U.S. stock exchanges while flouting Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) oversight. It was passed unanimously in the Senate on May 20. “The Senate has done its job to help protect Americans from losing their life savings and retirements to dishonest Chinese companies. Now it’s time for Speaker Pelosi to allow the House to do the same. We ought to pass this bill and send it to the president without delay,” Johnson said. “At a time when we need smart, effective policies for holding China accountable, Senator Kennedy has produced a commonsense solution to prevent unscrupulous foreign companies from exploiting and defrauding American investors. I applaud him for his leadership on this issue, and I am proud to be able to include this bill in the upcoming Republican Study Committee's publication of national security strategy recommendations.” |
