Congressmen tour The Caddo-Bossier Port and Lock and Dam

KTBS

Shreveport, LA - U.S. House Representatives Mike Johnson (R-La.) and Bruce Westerman (R-Ark.) toured The Caddo-Bossier Port and Joe D. Waggonner Jr. Lock and Dam.

Johnson said he was impressed by the facility and looks forward to its growth.

Westerman said he hopes to see a port just like it in his home state.

"It's a remarkable facility here," Westerman said. "Lots of industry. Lots of high paying jobs... The kind of thing you would expect in a nice port facility like this. I'm just upstream and the Red River goes up north into Texarkana. We would like to see it navigable up there someday and see ports further up. That would be good for Arkansas and be good for Shreveport as well.

International steelmaker Ternium USA will invest $14.7 million to expand and upgrade its facility at the port.

According to Louisiana Economic Development the company will retain 150 existing jobs, create six new direct jobs, and an estimated 16 new indirect jobs.
