Johnson Announces $40 Million in Covid-19 Relief Funding for LA Public Transportation

BOSSIER CITY, La. – U.S. Representative Mike Johnson (LA-04) today issued the following statement after the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) announced the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LADOTD) is receiving over $40 million through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act). This critical funding will support the state’s public transportation in rural areas, which has been heavily impacted by COVID-19.

“Public transportation fills a critical gap by giving individuals access to busses and other transit options, who may not have another way to get from one place to another,” said Congressman Johnson. “That is why I’m very pleased to see this strong grant being awarded to LADOTD to continue transit operations in rural parts of the state after being vastly impacted by COVID-19 due to stay-at-home orders. I thank the Trump administration for recognizing transportation as a vital operation, and the FTA for this award to maintain Louisiana’s public transportation system.”

Background: The grant was authorized under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act) that was signed into law on March 27. For more information about FTA’s COVID-19 response, click here.
