Congressman Johnson Amendment to Ensure Servicemembers and Their Families are Properly Represented in the Census Passes through House Armed Services Committee

WASHINGTON, September 2, 2021 — United States Representative Mike Johnson (LA-04) introduced an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) which would require the Department of Defense to formulate a plan to more closely coordinate with the Census Bureau so that servicemembers will be more accurately counted in each Decennial Census.

The amendment was accepted by the House Armed Services Committee for inclusion in the NDAA legislation which today passed out of the committee, heading next to the full House of Representatives for consideration.

“Louisiana’s 4th Congressional District has one of the highest concentrations of military personnel in America,” Johnson said. “Our district is home to two major installations—Barksdale Air Force Base and Fort Polk—and all the courageous servicemembers and their families who live and work there. It is crucial that each and every one of these patriots and citizens are represented in the U.S. Census so we can ensure that they have the resources they need to do their work and keep our country safe.”

Congressman Johnson is the Vice Chairman of the House Republican Conference, a member of the House Judiciary and Armed Services Committees, and a former constitutional law litigator.
