WASHINGTON, November 1, 2021 — United States Representative Mike Johnson (LA-04), along with the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute (CCAI), recognized Benton resident Elizabeth Carper as an “Angel in Adoption” honoree for her decades of devotion to children in Louisiana’s foster care system. Every year, members of Congress nominate an individual, family, or organization to be recognized for demonstrating a commitment to improving the lives of children in need of permanent, loving homes. Congressman Johnson nominated Ms. Carper, who recently celebrated her 100th birthday, for providing a safe home and upbringing to more than 30 children throughout her long life. Congressman Johnson released the following statement: “Elizabeth Carper is a bright, shining light and blessing for North Louisiana. For decades, she’s provided loving and faithful care to dozens of children entering the foster care system. The compassion of people like Ms. Carper ensures children are given exceptional care during difficult transitions. It’s an honor to recognize her as our 2021 Angel in Adoption for her selfless service to the children of our community.” Background: Since 1999, CCAI’s Angels in Adoption program has upheld a tradition of celebrating the extraordinary efforts of individuals, couples, families, and organizations who work tirelessly to advocate for children in need of a family. Throughout the 23 years, over 2,900 Angels have received this special honor. Honorees are awarded at CCAI’s annual Angels in Adoption Gala every fall in Washington, D.C. Congressman Johnson is the Vice Chairman of the House Republican Conference, a member of the House Judiciary and Armed Services Committees, and a former constitutional law litigator. |
