Johnson Statement on Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act
Washington, DC,
March 27, 2020
BOSSIER CITY, La. – U.S. Representative Mike Johnson (LA-04) today released the following statement regarding the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act: “In this unprecedented national emergency, Congress has a responsibility to help protect the health and safety of the American people and to preserve our economy, which is the key to sustaining our American way of life. “While I have many concerns about the high cost of this legislation and some of its spending provisions which are politicized and wholly unrelated to the coronavirus pandemic, and while I advocated for several important changes that were not ultimately adopted in the bill passed by the Senate, I believe House members had no choice today but to pass the CARES Act as quickly as possible. “This bill is far from perfect, but it does provide essential emergency relief to those who need it most—our health care providers, our small businesses, and American workers and their families, all of whom are suffering due to no fault of their own. “Congress must now fulfill its critical oversight responsibility to ensure that the precious taxpayer dollars being dedicated today are spent appropriately. As chairman of the largest caucus of conservatives in Congress, I will do all within my power to help our extraordinary nation get through this crisis and emerge stronger than ever.” For more information on the CARES Act including FAQs, links to the full text of the bill, and a section-by-section summary, click here. |
