U.S. Representative Mike Johnson (LA-04) released the following statement in response to President Trump’s announcement that he has reached a deal with Speaker Pelosi to approve the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA):
“President Trump has never delivered a better deal for America’s workers and Louisiana’s economy than the USMCA. While I’m disappointed Democrats needlessly held it up for more than a year, I’m proud to have helped get the USMCA across the finish line so it can finally bring more jobs, higher wages and greater opportunities to hardworking Louisianians.
“Louisiana heavily relies upon a vibrant trading relationship with Canada and Mexico. Last year alone, our state exported $12.7 billion in goods to these nations. The USMCA builds upon this success by expanding market access and modernizing our trading relationship with Canada and Mexico in a way that is favorable to Louisiana businesses and workers.
“It’s a shame House Democrats have used the vital reforms provided by the USMCA as a political prop in their larger impeachment charade. Americans’ success should never be used as leverage for the benefit of the Democrat majority’s political agenda.”
